That's 网红脸 — the eerily uniform 'influencer face' that flooded Chinese social media in the mid-2010s. So many livestreamers and beauty bloggers sported this surgically or digitally perfected look that netizens joked you could swap their profile photos without anyone noticing. It's simultaneously aspirational and a little unsettling.
The rise of platforms like Weibo, Meipai, and later Douyin created an economy where appearance was currency. Affordable cosmetic surgery, powerful beauty filters, and the explosive growth of the wanghong (influencer) industry converged around 2015, producing a homogenized beauty ideal. Critics noted that this standardized look erased ethnic and individual diversity, sparking broader debates about authenticity, consumerism, and the pressures young Chinese women face online.
