饭桌猫 — Dinner Table Cat / Woman Yelling at Cat
What Is 饭桌猫?
Two images combined: a woman pointing and shouting, paired with Smudge the cat sitting at a dinner table looking deeply unimpressed in front of a plate of vegetables. The format is infinitely adaptable — left panel: any demand or accusation; right panel: complete, dignified indifference.
Origin
The cat photo came from a 2018 Tumblr post where owner Miranda Stillabower photographed Smudge at the dinner table with salad in front of him ('he no like vegetals'). The woman is Taylor Armstrong from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, from a 2011 episode. They were combined in June 2019 on Twitter. The resulting meme exploded globally.
Cultural Context
Chinese internet adopted the dinner table cat for its perfect two-panel structure: the left is accusation, outrage, demands; the right is a cat who has fundamentally transcended all of that. In WeChat groups, it became the go-to image for responding to bosses, parents, and partners with quiet, feline contempt.
How It's Used
Left panel: anyone with demands. Right panel: you, completely unbothered by them.
