Riding a wave of cultural nationalism and 'guochao' (national trend) consumerism, Gen-Z Chinese youth began reclaiming traditional aesthetics as cool rather than antiquated. The hanfu market exploded into a multi-billion yuan industry by the mid-2020s, with social platforms like Xiaohongshu amplifying daily outfit posts and normalizing what was once considered cosplay.
